In 2007, she joined Balmorhea and soon after began tracking for their label debut “Rivers Arms.” She has toured with Balmorhea and Idyl, and her new album, Life In The Midwater, is available now.

Record Highlight – Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys

Since forming 25 years ago, Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys have toured continuously and become torchbearers of American roots music. As a singer, songwriter, bandleader, and entertainer, Big Sandy has few contemporaries. With the release of What a Dream It’s Been, Big Sandy is at once acknowledging and celebrating the successes of the past 25 years, while setting the stage for further exploration and interpretation of the musical forms he is most passionate about.

The new album, What A Dream It’s Been, will be released on August 27 by Cow Island Music – Pre-order now!

Record Highlight — Yourself And The Air

Spirit Mixers cover art

Hailing from Chicago’s lower west side, Yourself And The Air combine Midwest atmospherics with the sweeping sprawl of a skyward city built on electricity and steel. Take flight over Lake Michigan and this is your soundtrack. Songs to think to. Songs to dream to. At one moment the infinitesimal line between water and sky, the next the buzzing neons of the boulevard at night, escaping crowded bars for desolate alleys — you and a memory, Yourself And The Air.

After four EPs, countless tours, a slight lineup change and a relocation, the new record — Spirit Mixers —  perfects the quirk pop the band has made a name on. Soundscapes are whimsical, rolling, catchy. Think warm, hazy summers and bicycle rides to the beach. Or maybe camping trips.

Record Highlight — Chixdiggit!

Double Diggits! is the concurrent reissue of From Scene To Shining Scene and Born On The First of July – both available everywhere on July 23 (with special limited edition color editions available directly from Fat Wreck Chords).

Chixdiggit! was originally conceived by four guys who couldn’t play instruments after they made enough money selling tee shirts around their high school (for an at-the-time fictional band called Chixdiggit!) to purchase some drums. If that doesn’t make sense, read on, because that’s just how stuff works inChixdiggit! land. That was in 1991. Since then, Chixdiggit! have toured the world, put out records on indie juggernaut Sub Pop, wacky Fat Wreck subsidiary Honest Dons, Bad Taste (where they re-recorded and re-released a new version of their very first album…Weird, right?) and most recently Fat Wreck Chords proper.

Record Highlight — Robert Rolfe Feddersen

rrf

Robert Rolfe Feddersen just finished recording a new album with Steve Albini at Electrical Audio Mtudios in Chicago, IL.  The album, American Loser, was recorded onto 2″ tape and mixed down on 1/2″ tape.  The 10-song album was recorded in two days (Mixed on the third day.)  Stay tuned for release later in July…

Record Highlight — Mounds

MOUNDS is Tom Hohmann’s post-USAISAMONSTER narrative synth prog duo with Alfred Turner. They write songs about early native culture, nature and beyond! This LP comes with an insert and a beautiful 4 color silk screened jacket, limited to 300 copies.

Record Highlight — Secret Colours

Peach cover art

Secret Colours revel in being the bastard seed of the ’60s psychedelia and ’90s Britpop bloodlines. Since their eponymous debut in 2010, the band moved swiftly from neophyte in the Chicago psychedelic-newgaze scene to crusader over the course of unforgettable performances at Austin Psych Fest and Levitation in 2012. Appearances with Night Beats, Ringo Deathstarr, Elephant Stone, Spindrift, Asteroid #4, and The Warlocks, have continued to keep Secret Colours in the hearts and minds of their Chicago faithful, but all the while, they’ve been hard at work with producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Gomez, Sage Francis, Iron & Wine) sharpening the edges of their polychromatic sophomore album, Peach.

The songs from the sleeker collective of Tommy Evans, Dave Stach, Justin Frederick, and Eric Hehr are definitively next level, but are still drenched in the sound that will help you to turn on, tune in, and drop out.

The new album is Peach — available on vinyl in two different variants.  1. ultra-limited edition 180 gram wax, with special artwork by Stanley Mouse on gatefold jackets, and including a download code.  2. standard double vinyl with download code.  You can grab either copy now.

Record Highlight — Meridian

Meridian is the brainchild of Max Stern, best known as the vocalist/guitarist for rising Cleveland punk band Signals Midwest. Many of the songs comprising Meridian’s full-length debut, Aging Truths, date back as early as 2007, when Max began playing acoustic house shows around Cleveland. These songs aren’t Signals Midwest rejects, though; they draw from an entirely different set of influences, such as the Avett Brothers, Sundowner, the Mountain Goats and Frank Turner. Making the project more special is the involvement of Max’s younger brother Jake, who he taught how to play guitar at a young age and contributed to the arrangements of the songs on Aging Truths.

Pre-order now from Youth Conspiracy Records – the earlier the pre-order,  the rarer the color variant!
